I think that I am impaired and blessed with both an inner 5 year old and an inner 40 year old. I sometimes feel I am still a child, when I compare myself to my peers. I feel I have a lot of humor about life, a lot of excitement, I like to embrace frivolous things! Then other times I feel like I am so much older than my peers, in terms of goals and dedication to my craft of hats (http://bubblesandfrown.etsy.com) and my studio (http://pillarboxstudios.com). This time, when we shot, my inner 5 year old came out. Lucky was standing there saying “laugh!” and I was swinging my hair about and being silly and when I look at these shots I feel like I am not a grown up at all, but a personification of my favorite cartoon character. So as I sit here now, looking at these photos while simultaneously redecorating my photo studio, I can’t help but reflect on the odd duality of my personality…….. - Sylva
White on white… every photographer’s favorite thing to shoot;) - Lucky
PLEASE, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!
I am sure you all remember Roustan (http://www.roustanbodypaint.com/) who has bodypainted me a few times since I started this blog! He has flown into LA all the way from Pawtuckett just for the sake of art :-/
This ambitious artistic utterly talented friend of mine has started a Kickstarter….. (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/roustan/holographic-body-painting-real-3d-body-paint-image) and is hoping to create a 3D holographic images of one of his body paints using some crazy ultra modern gizmo. He has generously offered that I model for this super rad project! Soooo if you want, please please pledge some $$$dollars$$ to the cause! Cause I wanna go to Seattle and git git git naked~!!!!! - Sylva
I am so so tired. It has been a long day. The studio was rented all day, following which I did a shoot for Mexico Maxim (?!?!?!?!!?), following which Lucky came by for some creative ventures! Oh… and I dyed my hair! Ta da!!! I am off to bed, I have another epically long day tomorrow. Sleep tight, great galactic inter webs! Love and love and love and kittens. - Sylva
Ahhhh… it felt good to shoot something for fun:) Between Sylva filling hat orders for burners and me going to Burning Man we haven’t been able to get together for quite a while now so it was extra fun when I showed up and she had done some remodeling AND bought a ring flash. Yay me! - Lucky
One of Lucky’s favorite places to sneak off to is the stairwell at the west side of the building. It is painted all white and the natural light that comes in is just exquisite. I quite love shooting in there too. I put on another of Rachel’s (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Posh-Fairytale-Couture/346945775325021) creations and decided to throw in this colorful umbrella for good measure! woot woot! Happy summer time sunshine flowers smiling unicorns rainbows and good blow jobs. - Sylva
Lucky came over today and we decided to keep it simple and head for the roof. I threw on my favorite obnoxiously orange sun dress and a feathery headband that I want to keep for myself oh so desperately! When we walked outside, the clouds were dreamily painted across the sky and the wind was blowing gently. It was like the universe was doing us a favor and illustrating the perfect background for our creative ventures. Thank you life :-) I like it here on this magical earth :-)- Sylva
A while back Marco approached me wanting to do some headdress collaborations. Of course I was excited, cause he is an amazing artist. You can see his creations at Flow Ninja Leather and El Vaquero Muerto. He does both fine art and leather craft and always throws a morbid Dia de los Muertos twist in there. It is inspired artists like Marco that make my world go round :-) This hat was created by him and his partner Kyle and myself. It totally reminds me of Where The Wild Things Are, which was one of my favorite books when I was growing up :-) And so I love it. Inset among the lamb skin is a stone called a rainbow drusy, and the horns are from a creature called a blesbok.- Sylva
Crop tops are making a come back. Get yours at Forever 21. I love that fricken place.
This is actually a REALLY colorful outfit. It’s kinda all over the place though and her makeup was from a previous look so we decided on doing this in B/W. I’m pretty sure at least one color outtake will wind up on my blog though. - Lucky
Lucky and I have had a hard time meeting up this past month, as I mentioned before. I was excited for his visit and to get some creative juices flowing between us once again (no pun intended mwahahah). The day was a bit of a challenge, it seemed impossible to get started shooting. From appointments at the studio to emotional challenges and family “stuff”, it seemed like the world was against us juuuust a tiny bit. We finally pulled it together and got through the slight obstacle course and took some super cute photos. I have been hoarding a bunch of awesome wardrobe from Rachel of Posh Fairy Tale Couture for quite some time now! It’s all delicious and girly and I was so so so excited to finally break it out for a shoot.
Ouch! I shot Sylva for a few hours today. It’s actually the first time I’ve done any real shooting since day #102 over a month ago. I forgot what a workout it can be. My arms are sore from holding up that stupid big camera and my legs are sore from half squatting for so long to keep the angles I wanted. It also didn’t help that it felt like it was about 120 degrees today!
All that aside, it was really fucking awesome to hang out and shoot with my favorite exhibitionist again;) - Lucky
