Day #143
I went to the Labyrinth Ball for my second time a few weeks ago.  When I was at the Ink N Iron Festival in early June I was gifted a ticket for each night because I was super dressed up and this gentleman who was promoting the event thought I looked well suited for the occasion.  He said just to show up in a rad costume and he would be happy :-)  Of course I was more than ecstatic to oblige and made a bad ass outfit combo for myself and Patrick to go each night.  Marco and Kyle (from Flow Ninja Leather) as well as my friend Marian were all coincidentally gifted tickets as well and so we went together.
The first time I went was a few years back and it was in the Henry Fonda Theater.  It was pretty but it definitely had a seedy Hollywood vibe to it :-)  This time they had found a new location, the Park Plaza Hotel just west of downtown LA.  It has been there for a few years but I hadn’t seen it.  The new venue definitely made it way swankier, it was an old hotel that was beautifully restored and architecturally way more appropriate for a ball, in my opinion.  In fact it was the most amazing costume ball I have ever been to, everyone was so so so over the top and there were a lot of film industry people who were professional costumers and had created other worldly attire for themselves.  I wish I could properly describe the excessive nature of all the beautiful masquerade goodness.  It was as if each person had spent days preparing.  One of the more memorable ones was this man who was a furnace.  He had a furnace on his chest and had put a LCD screen behind it that looked like flames.  My friend Roxy wore a huge gown and this crazy doll/ bird hat I made. You can check out the Labyrinth website to see more images of the event.  http://labyrinthmasquerade.com/  I believe that the 2012 shots should be up soon enough!

Anyhow, that was a long way of saying… I made this costume for the Labyrinth Ball.  I am really happy with it and want to wear it to the grocery store. - Sylva
